WNPR's Small Business Project
A ground-breaking initiative that explores all aspects of Small Business in Connecticut
In January 2011, WNPR began a ground-breaking initiative to delve into the complex world of small business in Connecticut. WNPR’s Small Business Project elevates understanding of the challenges faced by small business, educates policy-makers, and highlights the vital role of small business to the state’s economy.
As an off-shoot of the award-winning WNPR Business Desk,Harriet Jones and her team puts small business under the
microscope and investigates all aspects of what it takes to
run a small business.

WNPR’s Small Business Project includes:
· Weekly reports during Morning Edition and All Things Considered that explore the obstacles and challenges of small businesses.
· Monthly in-depth exploration of a specific small business topic, either as an expanded radio report or a full-hour discussion on WNPR’s award-winning Where We Live or the Colin McEnroe Show
· Quarterly Small Business Breakfasts that include a live remote broadcast of Where We Live, held at locations around the state.
· Archived reports and resources for small businesses on wnpr.org.
In the last 10 years, small businesses (less than 50 employees) accounted for 90% of the new jobs created in the state. It is not an exaggeration to say that small business is the backbone of Connecticut’s economy.
WNPR’s Small Business Project will seek out critical issues that reside just below the surface and put them on the radar screens of small business owners, legislators, and residents of the state.
WNPR’s Small Business project provides the vital information Connecticut needs to succeed as a small business leader.
