Of the many issues that impact women globally, health is a critical factor that is often overlooked. Globally, there are 5.4 million young men and women who are living with HIV, and nearly 60 percent of them are female.

The number of maternal deaths each year--550,000--has remained constant for more than a decade, and unsafe abortions account for 13% of those deaths.

Coming up, Where We Live, a look at the state of women’s health around the world – with Adrienne Germain from the International Women’s Health Coalition. We’ll talk about how the international community can get involved in protecting the health of all women.

Adrienne Germain will be speaking on Wednesday October 28, 2009 as part of a World Affairs Council of Connecticut lecture series - "Making Women's Rights and Health Central to Global Development".

6-7:30PM, Mercy Hall at Saint Joseph College
