The Obama Administrations Race to the Top has states scrambling to come up with innovative educational policies to attract federal dollars.

This transformation has shaken down to the local levels – where urban districts like Hartford and New Haven have taken very different approaches to teacher training and district-wide improvement. Today, we’ll talk about education reform on the federal and local level.

And, The Connecticut Supreme Court is expected to announce its decision today in what could be the most far-reaching education lawsuit since the Sheff versus O’Neill desegregation case. The Connecticut Coalition for Justice in Education Funding sued the state in 2005 challenging the way Connecticut funds public education, saying Connecticut must provide children with an equitable and adequate education. Lawyers for the state say it’s the legislature’s responsibility, not the Supreme Court’s…. to address quality of education issues. We’ll find out the latest on this case

 Program referred to a student preparation gap. But there is an equally significant teacher
preparation gap. A caller asked about the preparation of teachers and principals,
but but the ensuing discussion was mostly about principals. It is almost universally agreed that
 the  preparation of teachers is grossly inadequate. prospective teachers must do much more 
student teaching under the supervision of highly competent teachers, who should determine that the student
is ready for the classroom before the new teacher is hired.
