The budget debate in Connecticut went on for so long that some lawmakers turned to Solitaire to pass the time.

So, Now that a budget’s finally in place... was it worth waiting for?

Governor Rell obviously doesn’t think so. She’s allowed the budget to take effect – without signing it – and without the 8 million dollars of line item cuts to what she called “pork.” Why no cuts?

Well, the state’s Attorney General has said she can’t make line-item vetoes in a budget she doesn’t sign. So, Rell’s decided to let it slide.

The two-year, 37 Billion dollar budget increases the cigarette tax and the state income tax for millionaires, but includes big cuts to many agencies.

Coming up, we’ll break down the winners and losers after the bruising budget battle. Join the conversation
