The economy is changing our expectations for our careers, how we spend our money, and even how we raise our kids.
Layoffs and tight household budgets are causing families to change their routines. Child care centers across the country have vacant slots where there used to be waiting lists. Men are losing their jobs at a greater rate than women. Employers are cutting hours and instituting furloughs. That could be mean more quality time with family or more stressful squabbles at home.
Economic strain is also hitting families that have already split up. Family courts in Connecticut are seeing a surge in divorced parents looking to change their child support agreements.
Coming up, Where We Live, we’ll look at the recession and families. You can join the conversation – how has the economy changed your family?
