The number of babies born prematurely in the US is up 30% in the past 20 years, and nearly 4000 will be born early in Connecticut alone.
Some of the smallest babies are less than a pound, and can spend months and even years battling for their lives in hospitals. This comes at a great monetary cost, but more importantly, takes an enormous emotional toll on parents.
A new documentary by Alissa Wood for CPTV explores the world inside the Neonatal INtensive Care Unit, or NICU,and tells the stories of parents and their premature babies.
Today, Where We Live, we'll talk to doctors about risk factors for premature birth, and what it takes to care for babies born too soon.
