Episode Information

Amal Elsana Alh'jooj is a Bedouin Arab, living in Israel.  The population of these once nomadic people mostly left Israel, starting in the late 1940s, with the establishment of the current state.  Now, the number of Arab Bedouins living in the Negev desert is around 170,000, Many in so called "unrecognized villages" - which lack the basic services of the rest of the country.

Starting at the age of 14,  Alh'jooj became a community organizer- and later founded the first women's groups for this population.  She is now Director of the Arab Jewish Center for Equality, Empowerment and Cooperation.
