NOVA revolves around a simple premise: the world of science is exciting!

For NOVA viewers, science means adventure and exploration. As the highest rated science series on television and the most watched documentary series on public television, NOVA is one of television's most acclaimed series, having won every major television award, most of them many times over. NOVA's approach, developed over more than a quarter century, is to select a topic of great interest to viewers and then produce a film that is as entertaining as it is informative, using the tools of good pacing, clear writing, and crisp editing. Equally important, NOVA shows the human story behind the science story. Whether exploring a galaxy or an atom, the series delves into the personalities responsible for the discoveries, and the social consequences of events in the lab.

NOVA’s success is also a tribute to its viewers (more than six million per week, on average, in the U.S. alone), who have always shown themselves hungry for uninterrupted, hour-long programs on a single topic. And for those interested in even greater depth, NOVA offers a Web site to accompany every program. The Web sites offer articles, interviews, and personal essays as well as slide shows, 360° panoramas, and regular interactive features—all of which strive to enhance or delve deeper into subjects covered in the television program.
