Meet Super Why at the New Britain Rock Cats!

Before the Rock Cats take on the Bowie Baysox at the New Britain Stadium on Sunday, August 2, CPTV’s animated super reader Super Why will meet families and host fun reading activities. Between noon and 1 p.m., Super Why, from the animated PBS series Super Why! will be on hand at the stadium to meet youngsters, hand out coloring sheets, and, of course, host a read-along.

Super Why!, the animated educational children's series airing Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. on CPTV, is geared toward helping kids learn the fundamentals of reading through interactive storybook adventures.

Two news studies, funded through a Ready To Learn grant from the U.S. Department of Education and the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, show that children, especially those from low-income families, are learning core early literacy skills from the series. In fact, children who watched as few as two episodes of Super Why! scored 46 percent  higher on standardized tests than those who did not watch Super Why!

Super Why! is part of PBS Kids Raising Readers, focusing on helping children learn to read, and is funded by a cooperative agreement of the U.S. Department of Education, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and PBS.
