Aired Sunday, April 12, at 1:30 p.m. on CPTV
Great Performances at the Met presents La Fille du Régiment or "Daughter of the Regiment" by the renowned Metropolitan Opera in a stunning high-definition broadcast format.
Hailed by the Times of London as “the operatic show of the season,” this interpretation of Gaetano Donizetti’s La Fille du Régiment premiered to rave reviews. The production features Natalie Dessay in the role of the foundling Marie and Juan Diego Flórez as her beloved Tonio. The pair was described as an “operatic coupling made in heaven” by London’s Financial Times.
This presentation comes as part of CPTV’s year-long series of opera broadcasts. CPTV Program Director Joanne Whitehead states, “We know that many of our viewers were disappointed at the loss of the Connecticut Opera. Now, opera lovers across the state will be able to experience front row seats in the comfort of their own home to some of the Metropolitan Opera’s best performances. Great Performances at the Met allows CPTV to broadcast these luxurious productions in high-definition television. It’s a viewing experience not to be missed by any opera lover.”
Great Performances has been airing on PBS for more than 35 seasons, and it is the only continuing prime time performance showcase on American television. During its time on the air, the series has been honored with 62 Emmy awards and four Peabody Awards.
