Community transportation activist Toni Gold says the streets of Hartford “have become little more than sewer pipes for automobiles.” Though the two interstates that run through the city were meant to bring economic development to the area, we’ve instead “thrown away our competitive advantage, by paving the city.” Says gold. Today, Where We Live, a conversation about what it will take to make the Hartford region into a walkable, bikeable, and green-transit friendly place.

The state bond commission has approved a $26 million dollar initiative to design and build a high-speed commuter rail line from New Haven to Springfield. But what might that actually look like here in Hartford? In a rush to attract federal funding, are we at risk of repeating past mistakes?
