This program profiles Nook Farm, a neighborhood on the edge of Hartford, Connecticut, which was home to some of the most intriguing personalities in the United States, including Mark Twain; author Harriet Beecher Stowe; women's suffrage activist and sister to Stowe, Isabella Beecher Hooker; Civil War general Joseph Hawley and others. In the latter half of the 19th century, Nook Farm flourished. While their children played under the trees, the denizens of Nook Farm gathered on porches and in parlors, sharing ideas about abolition, women's suffrage and other issues of the day that would help shape society as the country looked forward to the new century.
