PETER, PAUL & MARY: CARRY IT ON, A MUSICAL LEGACY

A CPTV Red Carpet Special

Aired May 17 at 7:30 p.m. on CPTV

There once was a time, some years before the ascendance of rock and roll on Top 40 radio, when popular music veered sharply from the mainstream to sample American roots-music traditions. Inspired by the songs of Pete Seeger and The Weavers, this folk music, found its greatest expression during the early 1960's in the songs of an emerging Greenwich Village group known as Peter, Paul and Mary. In the Trio's PBS show Carry It On: A Musical Legacy, we share in the four decade long career of Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey and Mary Travers. The Trio recalls the beginnings of the cultural revolution of the 1960's when music emerged as a unifying force midst the hopeful, idealistic and sometimes turbulent, movements of social change. Carry It On features rare archival performances of songs that energized the spirit of the nation's cultural and political renaissance. Do Peter Paul & Mary still carry it on? No question! Just watch and listen. Learn more...

Rain: The Beatles Experience

A CPTV Red Carpet Special

Aired May 17 at 9:30 p.m. on CPTV

In their review about Rain: The Beatles Experience, LA Weekly wrote, "These guys are amazing... Rain is able to perform live, things the Beatles never could, such as side 2 of Abbey Road with ease, down to the last sound effect."Rain is a multi-media, multi-dimensional event which features 5 different scene and costume changes, three video screens, and live camera projection, combining television commercials and historical video footage from the '60's. As anyone who has witnessed Rain in concert will attest, the music is first and foremost, and is recreated with the utmost care and integrity. Rain distinguishes itself by focusing on details, and delivers a perfect note for note performance. All the music is performed live, with no pre-recorded tapes or sequences. Learn more...
