We kick off our Olympic coverage with guests representing the national grocery bagging championships and the World Rock Paper Scissors Society. Also Andrea Turrisi, a Hartford stylist who has coached Team USA in HAIRWORLD – the world championship of beauty.

The Winter Olympics are basically stuff your mother would never let you do. You are NOT flying off the side of a mountain strapped to a board! You are NOT going cross country skiing with a loaded rifle! You are NOT going ice skating dressed like THAT young lady.

But watching Bode Miller fly down a mountain at breakneck speeds last night, I kept thinking about how exalted these people are in their skills. It just doesn't seem connected to the life the rest of us live. So we decided to do something about that. There are a lot of ways to compete, and today you'll meet somebody who cuts hair right here in Hartford ... and coaches the U.S. Team in the Olympics of Hair. You'll learn about the cutthroat world of international rock paper scissors meets, and hear what it's like the national Grocery Bagging Championships.
