Vijay Prashad
George and Martha Kellner Chair in South Asian History and Professor of International Studies
Trinity College

When he was in school, a teacher once told Vijay Prashad's class
that they should think so hard that it might make blood rush out of our
ears. It was quite a vivid, and ghastly image. A few years later, in
graduate school, Professor Prashad read the work of a French
philosopher who enjoined his readers to "push thought to the
extreme." Prashad is committed to intellectual extremism: nothing is
forbidden to think about, everything is open to investigation. Our
methods should be as diverse as the world, we need to be patient with
our search, and yet, we should cultivate a short attention span for
cant. Those are the rules of his classroom.
