Stephanie Fortunato

Stephanie Fortunato works for Mayor David N. Cicilline in Providence's Department of Art, Culture + Tourism on the City’s cultural policy. In this capacity, she is overseeing implementation of the Creative Providence cultural plan and related projects. Previously, she worked as a consultant for arts and humanities organizations including the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities and the Rhode Island Historical Society. She co-directed the June 2007 Rhode Island StoryCorps residency. Stephanie was director of programs for The Pawtucket Foundation, a civic organization that aims to catalyze local prosperity, and a consultant for New York City-based Jane Clark Chermayeff Associates LLC, a museum-consulting firm specializing in family programming. Stephanie began her career on Long Island, working for the Huntington Arts Council and as curator of a local historical society museum. She is on the Board of the Pawtucket Community Development Corporation and volunteers with The Hive Archive, a feminist art collective. She received her M.A. in public humanities from Brown University in 2008 and a B.A. in humanities from Providence College in 1997. Her academic interests include public humanities programming, the interpretation of place, environmental history, public art, travel and tourism.
