Rev. Sara Lamar-Sterling is a native of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York. She also holds an M.A. in music history from CUNY-Graduate School and University Center, and a B.A. in Music, with minors in French and Drama, from Hofstra University.
Before her appointment to First & Summerfield United Methodist Church in July 2007, Rev. Lamar-Sterling served as associate pastor at Park Avenue United Methodist Church (NYC) and Nichols UMC in Trumbull, Connecticut.
Sara serves on the Connecticut board of the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice, Interfaith Cooperative Ministries, and the New Haven Peace Commission. With the New York Annual Conference of the UMC, she is on the board of Methodists in New Directions, a grassroots organization that works for the full inclusion of glbtq people in the UMC. She is chairperson of the Annual Conference’s Personnel Committee and an ex-officio member of the Commission on Higher Education and Campus Ministry.
