Piotr Wandycz was born in Krakow in 1923. Wandycz served in the Polish army until 1945. After he received his B.A. and M.A. at the University of Cambridge, he received his Ph.D. in 1951 from the London School of Economics. Wandycz moved to the United States soon after, and taught at Indiana University before coming to Yale as an associate professor in 1966.
Wandycz is a noted authority on Eastern and Central European History. Wandycz's "The Price of Freedom: A History of East Central Europe from the Middle Ages to the Present" was a 1992 History Book Club selection.
Wandycz currently teaches at Yale University in New Haven.
