Before WNPR, she interned at WFCR in Amherst, MA and was News Director at her college station at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She graduated UMass with a degree in Journalism and Japanese. While there, Melissa studied ancient Japanese puppetry (bunraku) in rural Japan, and Japanese language in Tokyo. She spends her time rooting for the New York Mets and Miami Dolphins, reading books, minding her pet fish, and discussing flamingoes as often as possible.
