Melanye Price

Melanye Price completed her B.A. (Magna cum Laude) in geography with a political science minor at Prairie View A&M University in 1995 and her M.A. (1998) and Ph.D. (2003) in political science with a specialty in the field of American politics at The Ohio State University. Her dissertation, Warring Souls, Reconciling Beliefs: Unearthing the Contours of African American Ideology, examined ideology formation among African Americans which attempted to link major ideological cleavages in traditional African American political thought with contemporary public opinion. More specifically she used focus groups and the National Black Election Study to explore evidence of adherence along an Integrationist-Nationalist Continuum and to understand what this adherence means for policy preferences and opinion formation. Her next project turns to examining the intergenerational transmission of beliefs and opinion about race and appropriate political strategies among African Americans. She has research and teaching interests in public opinion, Black politics, social movements and political psychology.
