As principal of Columbus School in Bridgeport, Connecticut, a position which he has held for the last six years, Manuel A. Rocha is working to improve the school’s overall effectiveness by creating a collegial school environment, setting the highest expectations, and aligning all staff and parents under the same vision of maximum student achievement. Through his implementation of a model of collaboration, shared leadership and responsibility, Mr. Rocha is drawing from the mission statement of the Bridgeport School district. He involves the entire school community in the learning process, holding the staff, students, and parents, accountable for student success. Prior to coming to Columbus School, where he also spent two years as Assistant Principal, Mr. Rocha served the Bridgeport School district as a High School Guidance Counselor, a Bilingual Education Curriculum Specialist and a classroom teacher. Manuel Rocha was born on the Island of Sao Miguel in the Azores and came with his family to the United States at the age of fifteen. He holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts. Having attended graduate school at the University of Connecticut, the University of Bridgeport, and Sacred Heart University, Mr. Rocha holds an MS Degree as well as an Advanced Studies Degree. Mr. Rocha currently resides in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where he enjoys spending time with his two grown and beautiful daughters, Alicia and Carli.
