Joseph Visconti
Candidate for Connecticut's 1st Congressional District

Joseph B. Visconti was born in Hartford and has spent most of his life in the Greater Hartford area.

Joe is a businessman, a member of the West Hartford Town Council, patron of the arts and community activist. He serves on the council’s Community Planning and Development Committee, and is the Council liaison to the West Hartford Board of Education.

Joe was born December 9, 1956 at Hartford Hospital, the third of four children born to Anne and the late Joseph Visconti. He attended M.D. Fox Elementary School in Hartford, and Bulkeley High School before moving to West Hartford and graduating from Hall High School in 1974.

Joe earned his Associate’s Degree in Telecommunications from the University of Hartford in 1978 while working as a crew worker for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Local 84. He was employed by the City of Hartford on the technical crew at the Civic Center, in addition to working shows at the Bushnell Auditorium, Oakdale Theater, the Springfield Civic Center, and Colts Park in Hartford.

Joe spent four years in Dade County, Florida from 1995 to1999 where he began his public career by volunteering for “Safe Neighborhood Parks,” a non-profit group established to secure funding for safe play areas for Miami-area children. His commitment to the community helped garner a $200-million public bond initiative to restore playground areas.

He continued his community involvement as a founding member and chairman of Disabilities & Possibilities, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising public awareness of the issues experienced by people living with disabilities. In that organization Joe was responsible for securing funding and developing educational programming on PBS (Public Broadcasting System) and other broadcasting outlets.

Joe received an Emmy Award in 1997 for his television production. Disabilities and Possibilities also received the Governor Lawton Chiles Media Award for his work.

Upon returning to Connecticut, Joe reentered the family construction business and formed Joseph Visconti, LLC, a general contracting company specializing in commercial renovations and repairs. His firm serves Fortune 500 companies and small businesses in Connecticut. His clients have included Aetna, Marriott Hotels and American Power Conversion. In that capacity he manages multiple projects in all facets of the construction business. Joe also owns and operates a media company for publishing, recording and production of television programming and music.

He also worked with various community groups including West Hartford Vision, where he served as a board member, and the West Hartford Taxpayer’s Association, where he has been instrumental in promoting and advocating fiscal responsibility and transparency in government. He also is a member of the West Hartford Republican Town Committee.

As a founding member of Save the Center, Joe worked diligently to inform West Hartford residents about the Blue Back Square development, and led the charge to ensure that every citizen was guaranteed the right to vote on public subsidies and the sale of town property.

In his leisure time, Mr. Visconti, a New York trained actor, has been an actor mentor for the Hartford Children’s Theater in Hartford, an avid boater, and a member of the Patriot Guard Riders – an organization of motorcyclists who tour Connecticut honoring our fallen military personnel.

Mr. Visconti is a graduate of the University of Hartford and resides in West Hartford with his three children Joey (age 20), Gabriella (age 18) and Michael (age 14). He is a communicant of St. Peter Claver Church in West Hartford.
