Joseph Lea holds a BA in Economics, a JD in Law, a LLM in International Law, and Connecticut teaching certificates in both History and Social Studies and as a Library Media Specialist. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Avodah Dance Ensemble and the Judy Dworin Performance Project. He began his career at the York Correctional institution for Women in Niantic, CT as an educator in 1994 and became the Library Media Specialist in 2003. After a year-long sabbatical at the University of Manchester in the UK where he undertook an MA degree program in Applied Theatre he returned to York CI to facilitate arts-based programs. Currently, he is also teaching a course at Central Connecticut State University in the Criminology/Criminal Justice Department entitled The Art of Correction, which investigates the efficacy of arts-based programs in women’s prisons.
