Retired ophthalmologist David Fleishman, M.D. has built a unique and educational Web site with the help of over 1,250 educators from more than 685 institutions worldwide. This online museum and encyclopedia features the history of the optical lens (mostly eyeglasses).
Over 5,600 images (so far) are presented on about 300 webpages of information. Fleishman has assisted more than 200 curators to identify and date all their optical objects.
Although it has been relatively unknown to the general public, the evolution and development of spectacles over the past seven centuries qualifies as a long, quite fascinating journey through history, whose impact deserves to be better recognized and more widely appreciated.
People of nearly all ages and from all walks of life should find this website to be appealing. Check it out www.antiquespectacles.com
