WNPR Announces Program Changes to Its Lineup

Here & Now Replaces Talk of the Nation Beginning July 1

HARTFORD, Conn. (July 1, 2013) – Today WNPR announced a series of programming changes to its schedule.

Beginning on Monday, July 1 at 2 p.m., NPR’s new midday magazine series, Here & Now premieres, replacing Talk of the Nation. NPR announced in March that it was ending the call-in show Talk of the Nation hosted by Neal Conan after 21 years on the air. NPR said that they wanted the opportunity to tap into a resource of public radio stations across the country that were producing wonderful journalism that never got heard outside of their markets. WNPR is among an initial group of 15 stations called the “contributor’s network” which will regularly produce content for the show.

Here & Now offers a distinctive mix of hard news and rich conversation featuring interesting players from across the spectrum of arts and culture, business, technology, science and politics. Emmy and Peabody Award-winning journalist Robin Young brings more than 25 years of broadcast experience to her role as host of Here & Now. Co-host Jeremy Hobson worked at Marketplace for six years and he was also a producer of NPR’s All Things Considered and Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me!

On Fridays, WNPR will broadcast the popular NPR series Science Friday hosted by Ira Flatow from 2 to 4 p.m. The Faith Middleton Show will now air Monday through Thursday at 3 p.m. with a repeat of Wednesday’s Food Schmooze continuing on Saturdays at 12 noon. A regular presence on WNPR’s air for 33 years, this Peabody Award-winning show will repeat weeknights Monday through Thursday at 9 p.m.

American Public Media’s new program The Dinner Party Download will be featured on Friday nights at 9 p.m. Hosted by Rico Gagliano and Brendan Francis Newnam, this fast and funny ‘booster shot’ of news and culture is designed to help you dazzle your friends and family at your next dinner party.
