The Votes Are In! CPTV & WNPR’s Craft Beer and Chili Challenge Event Declares the State’s Best Beer and Chili!

Release Date: 08/30/2010

Eli Cannon’s and Stone Brewing Company Are The Big Winners

The ballots have been counted! CPTV & WNPR’s Craft Beer and Chili Challenge has declared its winners for the Best Beer and Best Chili in the state, as voted on by the sold-out crowd at the August 22 event held at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

Eli Cannon’s Tap Room of Middletown was awarded the Favorite Chili with its “Mexican Spiced Chili,” also generally regarded as one of the spiciest chilis offered that day. Plan B Burger Bar of West Hartford came in second with its “Certified Natural Beef Chili.” And there was a tie for third between Hartford’s Society Room which presented a “Hawaiian Pulled Pork Chili” and the Mohegan Sun Executive Chefs’ “BBQ Smoked Beef Brisket Chili.”

Stone Brewing Company of Escondido, California, won the Favorite Beer award with its various offerings, including its “Arrogant Bastard Ale.” Saranac Brewing of Utica, New York, came in second, and Connecticut’s own Willimantic Brewing Company was voted third.

With 43 breweries and 13 restaurants participating in the sold-out event, CPTV & WNPR’s Craft Beer and Chili Challenge will be coming back next year, according to Dean Orton, CPTV and WNPR’s Vice President of Development and Media Services. “We couldn’t be more pleased with the feedback. Those who attended the event enjoyed a great experience and all of our craft brewers and chefs did such a good job, it made it extremely difficult for voters to choose just one craft beer and chili as their favorite. We are certainly looking forward to next year and exploring how we can add to the fun and the overall experience of the event.”

CPTV & WNPR’s Craft Beer and Chili Challenge not only featured over 100 different craft brewed beers to taste, but 14 different chilis, some of which contained a number of unusual ingredients such as ostrich, pineapples, buffalo, venison and sweet potatoes. The Brewer’s Cow of Old Lyme even presented a booth featuring their beef-infused premium ice cream flavors, including Irish Stout and Ten Penny Beer Nut Parfait.
