HARTFORD, Conn. (May 20, 2013) – The martini has long been a symbol of cool, clean sophistication, from Hemingway and the Jazz Age to James Bond and Mad Men. But this classic libation is ripe for reinvention and reinterpretation.

For the third year in a row, two-time Peabody Award-winning WNPR broadcaster Faith Middleton goes on a search for the most unique and spectacular martini in the state. Middleton will host the third annual Food Schmooze Martini Competition, part of the Faith Middleton Food Schmooze Signature Event Series, on Thursday, June 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Farmington Gardens in Farmington, Conn.

Guests will have the opportunity to sample creative martini concoctions and specialty cocktails from some of the top mixologists in Connecticut and vote for their favorite – all while savoring complimentary “gnoshes” from a variety of restaurants, including Rizzuto’s, The Litchfield Saltwater Grille, Lyme Grill, Eli’s on Whitney and Farmington Gardens. The winner will be announced before the night is through and will be declared the Food Schmooze’s Official Cocktail. This popular event is truly one of a kind and supports the local programming initiatives on WNPR. For attendees who will not have a designated driver for the event, safe rides home can be secured through AmRide, a service that will drive attendees home in their own cars. AmRide is offering a discount to those who make reservations for transportation from the Food Schmooze Martini Competition. To make a reservation or for more information, call AmRide at 855-426-7433.

Tickets for the competition are $90 for general admission and $50 for designated drivers; only guests 21 years and older will be admitted. The price of admission includes all cocktails as well as food from some of the state’s best restaurants. For tickets, go to wnpr.org, keyword: martini.
