RUCKUS MEDIA GROUP AND CPTV ANNOUNCE MOBILE PLATFORM TO REDEFINE AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT, CONTENT DISTRIBUTION, AND FUNDRAISING

Wilton, CT:  May 13, 2013 – Ruckus Media Group, an independent family entertainment company, and Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) have partnered to launch a new station-branded mobile delivery and engagement platform. This strategy allows CPTV the ability to deliver and monetize content on smartphones and tablets while creating a new active audience of mobile users.

The CPTV-branded iOS mobile platform will be available via the App Store and features downloadable videos, eBooks, and interactive books from CPTV Kids, as well as top names in children’s entertainment currently featured in Ruckus’ children’s application.  After the initial June launch, a separate application featuring general interest content will roll out later this year.

This mobile platform enables CPTV to:

·        Thrive in today’s mobile world by leveraging its traditional broadcast experience and brand

·        Offer a new universal distribution outlet of content for kids and parents, when and where they want it, without relying on a Wi-Fi connection; all content can be fully downloaded for instant access at any time across all iOS devices

·        Provide parents useful analysis of their children’s reading and learning engagement while using the platform

·        Experiment with content production that is not limited by traditional broadcast constraints

·        Monetize mobile content locally via in-app purchases and generate additional revenue to support public media programming efforts

·        Provide a content management system that offers instant and market-specific changes to the “storefront” order, pricing, information, show promotion, and more

·        Enable their supporters to "purchase with a purpose" digital products within the store, with the ability to give directly to support their local station

·        Provide identified consumers with Ruckus-CPTV original mobile-distributed content

·        Maximize communication and engagement of audiences with a powerful and frequent “push notification” and email engagement system featuring educational tips and other useful information

“Ruckus Media Group is delighted to work with CPTV,” said Rick Richter, Ruckus’ CEO. “This effort represents the very best example of a public/private partnership, and shows real initiative on the part of CPTV to satisfy the needs of their audience and, importantly, to engage them through their smartphones and tablets.”

Other future Ruckus/CPTV advancements for this platform will include a CPTV mobile app for adults, as well as mobile apps for other systems, including Android. Further, CPTV is able to offer this turn-key mobile strategy to other like-minded stations that are interested in creating their own locally branded mobile platform.

“We’ve teamed up with one of the most knowledgeable companies in the mobile platform arena,” said Jerry Franklin, president and CEO of Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network, parent company of CPTV. “Ruckus Media has garnered a unique position in the children’s mobile app business, and has already demonstrated its willingness to understand the unique needs of public media and has positioned us for success.”

The CPTV mobile app will be available for Apple’s iPad, iPad mini, iTouch, and iPhone via the App Store in May.
