Infinity Hall Live, airingFridays at 11 p.m. on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV), is a new concert series unlike any that the public television network has ever produced, because it has a special connection to the Nutmeg State: Each episode is taped at Infinity Hall, a stunning 19th century music venue located in Norfolk, Connecticut.
The eight-part series showcases a variety of musical genres and styles, from indie rock to folk and country. For the premiere episode on Friday, June 17 at 11 p.m. on CPTV, the season gets started with a performance from the New Jersey-based rock band The Smithereens. Formed in 1980, the group has released a number of hit songs, including “Blood and Roses” and “Behind the Wall of Sleep,” and has acquired a cult following.
From their humble beginnings in Carteret, New Jersey, The Smithereens have become an enduring facet of alternative rock. Initially formed following the members’ graduation from Carteret High School, the group became popular with catchy, power pop hits. Drawing on inspiration from The Beatles and Kurt Cobain, The Smithereens have honed a style all their own.
With a sound described as a blend of American garage-band rock and British pop, The Smithereens have had an impressive 30-year career. Partnering with artists like The Kinks and Graham Parker, the group has produced over 10 studio albums and 4 live albums. With an
extensive touring schedule, the group continues to excite devoted fans across the country.
Combining the musical talents of Pat DiNizio, Jim Babjak, Dennis Diken and Severo Jornacion, The Smithereens offer something not seen everyday: a lively, fun, and entertaining performance. A true pillar in the underground music scene, The Smithereens are a great addition to CPTV’s Infinity Hall Live.
Infinity Hall Live features world-class musicians giving powerful performances in an intimate setting, and viewers are granted front-row seats—without having to leave the comfort of their own homes. Additionally, each episode gives viewers an exclusive peek behind the scenes, complete with artist interviews and a backstage look at concert preparations.
This new CPTV local series combines engaging contemporary artists with the old-fashioned joy of stripped-down, authentic performances. Plus, it showcases enjoy the thrill of seeing a Connecticut landmark brought to rollicking life.
