Norfolk Presents the Unique Harmonies of The Wailin’ Jennys
Premieres Friday, July 15 at 11 p.m. on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV)
Infinity Hall Live, airing Fridays at 11 p.m. on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV), is a new concert series unlike any that the public television network has ever produced, because it has a special connection to the Nutmeg State: Each episode is taped at Infinity Hall, a stunning 19th century music venue located in Norfolk, Connecticut.
On Friday, July 15 at 11 p.m. on CPTV, Infinity Hall Live continues with a performance by The Wailin’ Jennys. Founded in 2002, this award-winning trio represents a new side of folk music, combining tight vocal harmonies with three powerful female vocalists.
Comprised of Nicky Mehta, Ruth Moody, and Heather Masse, The Wailin’ Jennys have been delighting audiences across North America and Europe. Since the release of their eponymously named first studio album in 2003, the group has toured extensively, collaborating with a variety of artists and programs including public radio’s A Prairie Home Companion.
Steeped in classical music and art, The Wailin’ Jennys have developed a style and sound all their own. With heavy use of acoustic instruments, the group’s musical influences range from 70’s rock to traditional Celtic folk tunes. Whatever the case, The Wailin’ Jennys are not popular music’s typical stars. Their complexities in style and musical offering only serve to distinguish them further from the rest of the industry.
Having won a Juno Award (Canadian Grammy) in 2005 for their album, 40 Days, The Wailin’ Jennys have continued to enjoy overwhelming success. Their newest album, Bright Morning Stars, was released to critical acclaim in the United States and Canada.
Infinity Hall Live features world-class musicians giving powerful performances in an intimate setting, and viewers are granted front-row seats—without having to leave the comfort of their own homes. Additionally, each episode gives viewers an exclusive peek behind the scenes, complete with artist interviews and a backstage look at concert preparations.
This new CPTV local series combines engaging contemporary artists with the old-fashioned joy of stripped-down, authentic performances. Plus, it showcases enjoy the thrill of seeing a Connecticut landmark brought to rollicking life.
