Hartford Public Schools and CPBN Partnering to Create a Media Learning Laboratory

Students in Journalism & Media Academy Will Spend Senior Year at the Learning Lab at Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network
WHAT: Signing ceremony to formalize a unique agreement between Hartford Public Schools and the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN) to build an innovative satellite campus called the Learning Lab at the CPBN studios for the students in their senior year at the Journalism & Media Academy.
WHO: Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Christina M. Kishimoto; Jerry Franklin, President & CEO, Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN); Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra; plus the witnesses to the signing, Sheryl McLean-Houle, Principal, Hartford Journalism & Media Academy; Kelvin Roldan, Director of Institutional Advancement, Hartford Public Schools; Meg Sakellarides, Chief Financial Officer, CPBN; and Dean Orton, Senior Vice President of Development and Media Services, CPBN.

SUMMARY: Hartford Public Schools and the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network – parent company of CPTV (Connecticut Public Television) and WNPR (Connecticut Public Radio) – will sign a historic agreement to build a unique “total immersion” learning laboratory where seniors at the district’s Journalism & Media Academy will receive continuous hands-on training in all aspects of television production and other forms of broadcast communication under the guidance of CPBN professionals. Guests will view a promotional video for the program, architectural renderings of the renovated CPBN facility and learn how media training will be woven into the 12th grade curriculum to prepare the students for college. Construction on the project is expected to begin in 2012.
