Celebrate American Music with The Great American Songbook on Saturday, November 29 at 5 pm on CPTV
HARTFORD, Conn. – Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) celebrates some of the nation’s greatest songs – and greatest singers – with The Great American Songbook, airing Saturday, November 29 at 5 p.m. as part of CPTV’s November 2008 membership campaign. Viewers will learn how they can obtain exclusive CPTV Red Carpet tickets to see Michael Feinstein perform on his upcoming “Tribute to Frank Sinatra” tour.
Presented by PBS’ Great Performances, The Great American Songbook delves into the history of the American movie musical. Hosted by Michael Feinstein himself, The Great American Songbook offers a dazzling parade of popular American songs as seen and heard in some of the world’s most beloved films. From Al Jolson to Judy Garland to Frank Sinatra, from the sounds of the Gilded Age to New Orleans jazz to Broadway musicals, The Great American Songbook tells the story of the first 50 years of popular American music. This treasure trove of clips showcases the very best work of composers George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hammerstein and many more.
