CPTV's All Things Connecticut Takes on "Language" This Week

Release Date: 04/20/2010

Premieres Thursday, April 29 at 8 p.m. on Connecticut Public Television (CPTV); Encore Broadcast on Saturday, May 1 at 5:30 p.m.

All Things Connecticut (ATC) – CPTV’s weekly “tour de force” magazine-style series – invites viewers to see the Nutmeg State in ways they never imagined. The theme of the latest episode is “Language” – using it, overcoming it, delighting in it and transcending it. The show’s premiere is Thursday, April 29 at 8 p.m. on CPTV (with an encore broadcast on Saturday, May 1 at 5:30 p.m.)

Jason Hawkins hosts the show from West Hartford’s Noah Webster House – the birthplace and childhood home of the Connecticut man who wrote the American Dictionary and made an indelible impact on the country’s culture. In this week’s edition of “Treasure Hunt,” Brian Scott-Smith interviews a Connecticut woman about the ancient Tibetan Sanskrit documents she has collected. Ed Wierzbicki’s “Spotlight on the Arts” segment explores the work of Larry Hunt and Adelka Polak, two Connecticut artists who took their award-winning Masque Theatre to the Pierrot International Festival of Puppetry in Bulgaria to discover how the non-verbal “language” of mask and puppet theatre can transcend the spoken word. Follow Diane Smith in her segment “Positively Connecticut” as she celebrates a Connecticut summer tradition – the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival at the Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington. Since 1992, audiences at this annual event have sat among the fragrant blooms of the museum garden enjoying verse and music. Then Eric Clemons’ “Inside Out” segment visits members of a Newington Scrabble Club who meet every week to socialize and exercise their brain.
