CPTV4U, CPTV’s Over-the-Air and Cable Channel, Will Air Sound Tracks: Music Without Borders on Sunday, March 3 at 8 p.m.
Sound Tracks is hosted by Marco Werman, the Emmy Award-winning host of Public Radio International’s The World. Sound Tracks follows Werman and a team of reporters as they travel the globe, documenting the fascinating lives and extraordinary talents of a number of compelling musicians.
The program is divided into four segments, including “Jazz Ambassador,” which follows acclaimed jazz musician and author Wynton Marsalis as he seeks to spread the gospel of jazz to a new generation. In “Shakin’ the Tree,” Senegalese singer Youssou N’dour – best known in the United States for his duets “7 Seconds” with Neneh Cherry and “In Your Eyes” with Peter Gabriel – helps lead a historic protest movement in his country. “Into the Mystic” tells the story of Julie Fowlis, 2008’s BBC Folk Singer of the Year and an official Scottish Gaelic ambassador, whose work includes the theme song for the 2012 Disney/Pixar animated film Brave. And “Global Hit: Of Monsters and Men” features Icelandic folk/pop band Of Monsters and Men, who agree to do an exclusive on-camera performance for Sound Tracks.
Sound Tracks is produced for PBS by The Talbot Players of KQED,
