HARTFORD, Conn. (January 11, 2013) – On Thursday, January 24 at noon, Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) will hold a special screening event of the new PBS special, Makers: Women Who Make America at its CPTV Chase Family Studio at 1049 Asylum Avenue in Hartford. Highlights of the three-hour documentary will be shown at this free event.
Makers – which premieres on Tuesday, February 26 at 8 p.m. on CPTV – originated from a very clear premise: over the last half century, the work of millions of women has altered virtually every aspect of American culture. The film tells the story of how women have helped shape America through one of the most sweeping social revolutions in our country’s history, in pursuit of their rights to a full and fair share of political power, economic opportunity and personal autonomy. Makers showcases exceptional women — both famous and heretofore unknown individuals — whose pioneering contributions continue to shape the world in which we live. The documentary profiles such individuals as Judy Blume, Carol Burnett, Katie Couric, Ellen DeGeneres, Geraldine Ferraro, Billie Jean King, Maya Lin, Sandra Day O’Connor, Condoleezza Rice, Faith Ringgold, Gloria Steinem, and more.
At the CPTV Screening of Makers: Women Who Make America, attendees will be served lunch catered by Rizzuto’s Wood Fired Kitchen and Bar. The screening will be followed by a discussion with women leaders from Connecticut, including moderator Diane Smith, Emmy Award-winning TV journalist, radio talk show host and author, and panelists Cathy Malloy, CEO, Greater Hartford Arts Council; Patricia H. Meiser, director of athletics, University of Hartford; and Kate Emery, CEO, The Walker Group and reSet (Social Enterprise Trust).
