CPTV Premieres New Original Concert Special— Wilson Phillips: Live from Infinity Hall

On Wednesday, June 6 at 9:30 p.m., Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) premieres its new national music special, Wilson Phillips: Live from Infinity Hall. Taped on February 24, 2012, Wilson Phillips: Live from Infinity Hall featuresthe popular trio’s unforgettable performance at Infinity Hall in Norfolk, Connecticut. The group – made up of Chynna Phillips, Wendy Wilson and Carnie Wilson – is one of the biggest-selling all-female groups in music history, first reaching the top of the Billboard charts in 1991.

The groups’ new hit CD, Dedicated – which has topped the Amazon contemporary pop vocal charts – is a tribute to the music of their iconic parents; Chynna is the daughter of Michelle and John Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas, and Wendy and Carnie are the daughters of the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson. Displaying the same tight, lush harmonies their parents were known for in their music, Wilson Phillips gives these beloved songs a new appeal.

From the Mamas and the Papas repertoire, Wilson Phillips performs “12:30,” “Monday, Monday,” and the song that inspired the Dedicated CD, “California Dreamin’.” Carnie Wilson explained: “Last year we were at a private party and decided just for the party to sing ‘California Dreamin’.’ After we sang that together, our manager asked ‘What do you think about doing a cover album of the Mamas and the Papas and the Beach Boys?’ I said ‘When do we start?’”

Fans of the Beach Boys won’t be disappointed as the group covers some of their most best-loved songs. From “God Only Knows” and “In My Room” to “Wouldn’t it Be Nice,” Wilson Phillips’ performance of these tunes full of intricate, gorgeous harmonies gives them a fresh new tenderness. And it’s a true family affair with Carnie’s husband Rob Bonfiglio on guitar and Matt Jardine, the son of Beach Boys founding member Al Jardine, singing back-up vocals.

Of course, Wilson Phillips: Live from Infinity Hall also includes the group’s chart-topping ballad “Release Me,” and a rousing performance of their Grammy Award-nominated iconic hit song “Hold On.”

Though the ladies of Wilson Phillips have grown up, married and now have nine children between them, the group’s popularity has increased in the past year thanks to their appearance in the hit film, Bridesmaids, and their new reality series, Wilson Phillips: Still Holding On. In fact, their reality show camera crew was there the night of the Connecticut concert taping the group alongside CPTV’s crew.
