CPTV’s EatingCT Takes a Bite Out of the Brass City with a Trip to Waterbury on Thursday, June 4 at 8:30 pm

Release Date: 06/04/2009

The only show to focus on Connecticut’s restaurants and eateries, EatingCT samples the best foods in Waterbury, and visits some of its historical attractions in a new episode premiering on Thursday, June 4 at 8:30 pm on CPTV (repeats Monday, June 8 at 11:30 pm and Wednesday, June 10 at 5:30 pm).

EatingCT is made possible with the support of the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism.

In this episode of EatingCT, host Jason Hawkins grabs a grinder at the most famous grinder shop in the state, Nardelli’s Grinders; visits Drescher’s, the oldest restaurant in Waterbury (1868) known for its fine German food; does a mini tour of three of Waterbury’s best Italian restaurants: Nino’s, Diorio’s and La Tavola; grabs a 12-inch hot dog at the first place in the state to offer foot longs, Frankie’s; samples the critically acclaimed Portuguese restaurant, Lisboa, where he watches them prepare an entire pig; and grabs a slice as Bacco’s takes on Domenick & Pia’s in a pizza taste test showdown. In addition, Hawkins goes on a humorous tour of the Timexpo Museum which houses memorabilia from the former Waterbury Clock Company and goes inside for a look at the new, 30 million dollar renovation of the historic Palace Theater.

According to Hawkins, EatingCT is a virtual travel guide for those with a hearty appetite, a love of history and, of course, a great sense of humor.

“We talk to chefs, owners, wait staff and anyone else behind the scenes,” said Hawkins. “We also get the compelling stories behind the restaurants and learn their tasty secrets.”

Each half-hour episode features “Bonus Bites,” a segment that includes additional recommended restaurants, and the weekly “Culinary Quiz” trivia question, which offers viewers the chance to win fabulous prizes. EatingCT also features a companion website at www.CPTV.org, which provides links to featured restaurants and allows viewers to participate in contests, provide feedback and acquire information on show-related events. With beautifully shot video, compelling interviews, contemporary music and an interactive website, EatingCT is a high-quality program that gives viewers full access to the best eateries in the state.
