The Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN) Holds Its Board of Trustees Meeting Today at Torrington’s Warner Theater

HARTFORD, Conn. (November 18, 2013) – The Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network (CPBN) – parent company to Connecticut Public Television (CPTV) and WNPR/Connecticut Public Radio – holds its Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, November 18 at 12 noon at the Warner Theater in Torrington. The CPBN Board meets six times a year, mostly in the public broadcasting network’s Hartford headquarters. This is the first time the group has convened at the historic theater.

Jerry Franklin, president and CEO of CPBN, commented on the decision to move the meeting to Torrington this month. “As a community-licensed organization, we want to engage our constituents throughout the state. When the Warner offered to host our meeting, we were thrilled,” Franklin commented. “Moving our meeting to the northwest corner of the state also seemed appropriate since we are in the process of obtaining a new FM license in Torrington, which will further enhance WNPR’s radio signal in the area as well as across the region."

The CPBN Board of Trustees consists of thirty-three prominent business leaders from both the corporate and non-profit communities. Francisco L. Borges, Chairman & Managing Partner, Landmark Partners, serves as Chairman of the CPBN Board of Trustees. Jeffrey Hoffman, co-chairman of the Hoffman Auto Group, serves as Vice Chair.

Built in 1931 as a movie palace by Warner Brothers Studios, the Warner Theater has been described as “Connecticut’s Most Beautiful Theatre.” The theater fell into disrepair during the 1960s and 70s and was slated for demolition in 1982 when a group of concerned local citizens worked to save the theatre. It reopened in 1983 and completed all renovations in 2002. Today the Warner operates as a mixed-use performing arts center with more than 160 public performances a year serving 100,000 patrons.
