HARTFORD, Conn. Garrison Keillor, host and writer of A Prairie Home Companion, is bringing his sold-out show to Connecticut on April 25, 2009. The live broadcast, presented by WNPR and supported by the Litchfield Jazz Festival, marks the first time that A Prairie Home Companion has come to Connecticut in over 14 years. National underwriting for A Prairie Home Companion, which takes place in Connecticut at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, is provided by General Mills, Inc. and Ford Motor Company. Regional sponsorship is provided by the Litchfield Jazz Festival.

Keillor’s show remains the only live music and variety show aired nationwide today. A Prairie Home Companion features comedy sketches, music, and Keillor's signature monologue, “The News from Lake Wobegon.” Now heard by over 4 million listeners nationwide each week, A Prairie Home Companion airs Saturday nights from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on WNPR.

The Litchfield Jazz Festival will be held from July 31 through August 2, 2009, at the Kent School in Kent, Connecticut. The Festival will feature legendary jazz performers along with talented students from the Litchfield Jazz Camp. In the past, the Festival has included artists like Dave Brubeck, Tito Puente and Ray Charles. This year, for the first time in the Festival’s 14-year history, the show will unfold on Kent’s campus, in the cultural heart of the Litchfield Hills.

The Litchfield Jazz Festival is produced by Litchfield Performing Arts (LPA), a 28-year-old not-for-profit organization dedicated to the arts and arts education. Along with the Litchfield Jazz Festival, the organization runs Litchfield Jazz Camp, where students aged 13 and older are given the opportunity to work with world-class jazz instructors. LPA also sponsors arts education events and concerts statewide, and has previously run a variety of educational workshops, including dance, concert jazz, classical music and visual arts.
