Each episode pairs the dramatic narration of a book with engaging field trips and adventures – sparking interest in reading and learning for young viewers. A production of GPN/Nebraska Educational Telecommunications and WNED-TV Buffalo, N.Y., Reading Rainbow has received enthusiastic international acclaim, garnering more than 150 awards, including 20 Emmys, a Peabody, eight CINE Golden Eagles, seven Parent’s Choice Awards and three international Prix Jeunesse Awards. The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) has twice honored LeVar Burton for his role on Reading Rainbow with their Image Award.

The Reading Rainbow contest is supported locally by the Ensworth Charitable Foundation.
