CTSN Kicks Off Its UConn Women’s Basketball Season in Review by Looking Back at Five Women’s Basketball Senior Nights

Release Date: 02/23/2009

HARTFORD, Conn.– Senior night 2009 is approaching. It’s a memorable night where the senior class plays its final regular season game at Gampel Pavilion. In years past the crowds have been appreciative, the coach and parents glow with pride, and the players are adorned with tears. Building up to this year’s ceremonies the Connecticut Sports Network (CTSN) will relive senior nights past in “A Spotlight on Senior Night,” with ceremonies and games from 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2004. These games will be presented as part of CTSN’s UConn Women’s Basketball Season in Review. CTSN, a CPTV/WFSB-TV endeavor providing Connecticut’s first-ever 24-hour local sports network, is available on Comcast cable channels 185 and 187.

“A Spotlight on Senior Night” begins on Monday, February 23 at 8 p.m. and runs each weeknight at 8 p.m. through Friday, February 27. The CTSN recap begins with the 1998 ceremony, when Nykesha Sales, Rita Williams and Kelly Hunt said their final goodbyes. On Tuesday night at 8 p.m., CTSN will air the class of 2000 tribute that featured Stacy Hansmeyer. Some all-time favorite players, including Svetlana Abrosimova and Shea Ralph, will be seen Wednesday night during the class of 2001 farewell, and on Thursday the class of 2002 and the “fab four” – Sue Bird, Asjha Jones, Swin Cash and Tamika Williams – are highlighted. Finally, on Friday evening the 2004 tribute showcases Diana Taurasi’s memorable senior year.

CTSN’s Season in Review coverage continues with the network’s rebroadcast of CPTV’s UConn Women’s Basketball 2008-2009 season. Tune in on Monday, March 2, when CTSN will begin airing season games and highlights as well as encore presentations of The Geno Auriemma Show.
