Hamden ranks 33rd on a list of U.S. metro areas with the best blend of business friendliness and lifestyle offerings. The survey looks at tax rates and job growth, alongside school quality, natural beauty and access to arts and culture.
Last year nearly seven percent of Hamden’s businesses were startups - attracted by the town’s tax abatements for real-estate improvements, startup grants, technical support and low cost loans. Dale Kroop, director of Economic and Community Development for the town of Hamden says there’s also an emphasis on business retention and helping companies in town to grow.

Cut: We have a mini-boomlet of small manufacturing companies that moved from lets say 5,000 square feet to the next step of about 20 thousand square feet. We have a very strong real estate market in that regard.

CNN describes Hamden’s lifestyle as a blend of urban and suburban..with hiking trails at Sleeping Giant State Park located right next to Quinnipiac University, one of the town’s major employers. Fairfield CT town also made the list, ranking 64th. Bellevue, Washington was America’s top winner.
