A number of Governors will be meeting at Yale tomorrow to issue a declaration calling on Congress and the Presidential candidates to work with the states to develop effective climate change polices.

Republican and Democratic Governors from more than a dozen states have committed to signing the document. Including Jodi Rell and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The declaration will encourage the federal government to enact strong polices, including mandatory measures, that are integrated with those already enacted by states. The Governors are expected to support a federal cap and trade system. But also other measures such as standards for tail pipe emissions, energy efficiency, carbon content of fuels, building codes, and waste management.

TheĀ  meeting coincides with the centennial of the May 1908 Conference of Governors. Those governors also signed a declaration calling for the cooperation of the States and the Nation to protect the natural resources of the country.
