UNH Holocaust Remembrance Event Features Survivor, Mira Binford

The University of New Haven will present its ninth annual Holocaust remembrance event at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in Dodds Theater on UNH’s main campus, 300 Boston Post Road, West Haven.   

The keynote speaker, Mira Binford, is a Holocaust survivor and a documentary filmmaker. She received her doctorate from the University of Wisconsinand co-directed an award-winning documentary film series, “Contemporary South Asia.”
Binford also produced an award-winning video in 1994, “Diamonds in The Snow,” which illustrates her experiences as a child hidden from Nazis by strangers. She was one of a handful of Jewish children, out of thousands, to survive the Nazi invasion of her town of Bedzin, Poland.  

The ceremony will include the lighting of ceremonial candles, the chanting of a memorial blessing, a moment of silent contemplation and musical accompaniment.
