The Maxwell Shepherd Memorial Arts Fund's Shepherd Music Series at Collinsville Congregational Church will present the young Canadian pianist Ryo Yanagitani in a free concert on Sunday, April 14, 2013 at 4:00 P. M. Included in the program will be Claude Debussy's Pour le Piano, Franz Joseph Haydn's Sonata in F major (HobXVI:23), and the complete Ballades of Frederic Chopin. A reception will follow the performance. The Collinsville Congregational Church is located at 7 South Street at the Village Green in historic Collinsville, Connecticut.
Mr. Yanagitani has been the winner of numerous awards including the gold medal of the Tenth San Antonio International Piano Competition and the grand prize of the Hugo Kauder International Piano Competition. Twice a recipient of grants from the Canadian Arts Council, he was recently awarded the Sony Foundation of America Career Grant under the Salon di Virtuosi in New York and a Washington Award by the S&R Foundation of Washington, D.C. Mr. Yanagitani has performed worldwide in solo recitals, with chamber ensembles, and as solist with orchestras, including the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra, the San Antonio Symphony Orchestra, and the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. He has released his first two solo CDs, Alone With Chopin and Alone With Debussy, on the Lisem label. Mr. Yanagitani holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Yale School of Music and is currently Artist-in-Residence with the S&R Foundation and the Artistic Director of its Overture music series in Georgetown.
