Patriot Pirates
Monday, November 17, 2008
Mary Taylor Church on the Green
7:00pm – FREE
Robert H. Patton, author of Patriot Pirates, will lecture on these seafaring supporters of independence. The Patriot Pirates, often called Privateers, were engaged by the Continental Congress to plunder British merchant ships. These “pirates” converted private vessels into makeshift warships and were very effective against the British Fleet. They commandeered goods sorely needed for the war effort…as well as a tidy profit for themselves. The British economy suffered significantly from the losses, helping to ensure that the colonies would prevail. Robert H. Patton is the grandson of four star General George S. Patton. Refreshments will be served prior to the performance. For more information call 203-874-2664 or visit www.milfordhistoricalsociety.org.
