ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Frank Mastrone, born and raised in Connecticut, earned his Bachelors of Fine Arts from Central CT State University. He began his career at JP’s Good Time Emporium in Hartford as a “Singing Waiter.”  Mastrone soon joined the first national tour of CATS, and later, the original cast of The Phantom of the Opera, making his Broadway debut in what would turn out to be the longest running show in Broadway history.

Mastrone also took on the role of Jean Val Jean in Les Miserables, as well as other roles in shows such as: Tapestry: The Music of Carol King; Evita, as the Tango singer Augustine Magaldi; Big: The Musical; and Jekyl & Hyde.  Mastrone’s performances also included roles in Mamma Mia, Saturday Night Fever, a revisit to CATS, and his “triumphant return” to Phantom. Additionally, Mastrone made his Royal Albert Hall debut in the concert version of the Benny Annderson/Blorn Ulvaeus (from ABBA) musical Kristina. His other concert appearances include South Pacific (Great Performances), Showboat at Carnegie Hall, Camelot with the NY Philharmonic (Live from Lincoln Center), The Ballroom, Sam’s, The Sands Hotel (Atlantic City), and the Wallingford Symphony Orchestra.

Mastrone is supported by a very talented entourage of vocalists including sopranos Krista Adams-Santilli and Lia Carter. Adams-Santilli has concertized around the world and has performed principal roles in operas, musicals, oratorios and plays. Carter has been singing since the age of 10 and has performed on and off Broadway and in Europe as a soloist. They are both joined by mezzo-soprano Colleen Cooney, a winner of multiple awards including the Amici Vocal Competition, has performed in a variety of roles and concerts around the country.

Additionally, there is another Carter in this cast of musical artists, Fiona Carter, the concert’s youth vocalist. Following in her mother’s (Lia Carter) footsteps, Fiona has already appeared in title roles around the region including the role as the “voice of the unborn” during the 10th Anniversary Commemoration of 9/11 at St. Paul’s at Lincoln Center in New York.

Instrumental support for the concert will be provided by artists including violinist Darwin Shen, who has performed in orchestras throughout the region and is the coach for the Norwalk Youth Symphony; classical guitarist Frank Merendino, who has appeared on radio and television, as well as performed live throughout the United States and Europe; drummer Gabe Nappi, who has worked with such notables as Bill Cosby, Wayne Newton, and The Coasters, as well as performed in venues around the country; bassist Charles Casimiro, who has performed roles as bass guitarist and double bass in venues and theatre orchestras across the region; and pianist and musical director Michael Cooney, who has performed in concerts throughout the region and most recently as a musical composer for films in “Local Commercial” (2012) starring John Ratzenberger and the upcoming documentary “Homeless in a College Town” (2013).
