The Maxwell Shepherd Memorial Arts Fund will present a free concert, Music for a Joyous Season, as part of its Shepherd Music Series at the Collinsville Congregational Church on Sunday, December 16, 2012 at 4 p.m. A group of hand-picked young professional instrumentalists, The Quodlibet Ensemble, will offer a program that includes Corelli's Concerto Grosso in G minor, op. 6, no. 8 "Christmas Concerto", a group of contemporary songs by Mark Kuss, Muffat's Passacaglia from Armonico Tributo, Sonata no. 5 in G major, and Handel's motet, Silete venti. Special guest artist, soprano Lucy Fitz Gibbon, will be the soloist in the works by Kuss and Handel. A reception will follow the performance.
The Quodlibet Ensemble, formerly known as The Chamber Orchestra, was founded in 2008 by violinist Katie Hyun and adopts the Baroque period practice of playing without a conductor. They gave their inaugural concert in December 2008 at Dwight Chapel on the campus of Yale University to great critical acclaim and have performed at the Shepherd Music Series the past three Decembers to capacity audiences.
