Connecticut author Hanna Perlstein Marcus, 2011 winner of the Connecticut Authors and Publishers Association award for best short story, will launch her new memoir, Sidonia's Thread: The Secrets of a Mother and Daughter Sewing a New Life in America. The event will take place on Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 2-4 PM.
The book tells the tale of a mother and daughter who immigrate to Springfield, Massachusetts from a displaced persons camp after World War II to create a new life. As the mother, Sidonia, becomes well known for her extraordinary talent as a fashion designer and dressmaker, her daughter serves as her dutiful model. Yet Sidonia is unable to reveal her inner secrets to her daughter or anyone else. As the author seeks the answers to the secrets of her paternity, her heritage, and the reasons for her mother's reclusive behavior, she learns to "stand up straight" from her mother both in fashion and in life.
Sidonia's Thread will surprise, console, and inspire you.
