Culture Connect Featured Event
This lecture is in conjunction with the current exhibition, "Andrew Wyeth: Looking Beyond," on view until July 22, 2012, at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art.
Patterson Sims, an independent curator and American art scholar, presents a fresh interpretation of one of the twentieth century's most celebrated yet critiqued artists, Andrew Wyeth. Sims positions Wyeth in a larger historical framework beginning with earlier precedents, such as Northern European representational painting, and continuing to present day. Comparisons will be made between Wyeth and American Regionalism, Abstract Expressionism, Magic Realism, as well as contemporary artists such as Lucian Freud, Gerhard Richter, Wayne Thiebaud and others.
April 20, 12pm. Free with museum admission.
